Eagleman 2009

Congratulations to Alex, MaryClaire, Chris, Michelle, and Sarah for finishing Eagleman Ironman 70.3 on Sunday! It was a great day for racing, with a thunderstorm the night before to keep things cooled off. Everyone did fantastic, although competition was a little too fierce for anyone to get those coveted Kona or Clearwater slots.

Top finishers included:

Alex – 4:49:51, 8th in 20-24 men

MaryClaire – 5:30:21, 4th in 20-24 women

Michelle - 5:39:32, 5th in 20-24 women

Eagleman was a fun race to watch, and looked like a great one for racing. I’m definitely going to add it to my race calendar for next year. Here’s a few pictures from race day.

Andy and MaryClaire representing Team PVA. Paralyzed Veterans of America is a great organization with a great cause – supporting our veterans who suffer from spinal cord injuries or diseases. Andy (the only guy in the picture) works there, and MaryClaire (on the right) raised $1,300 for the charity in preparation for this race. Too bad Andy has been sick, or else he would have been racing, too. But that meant I got to hang out with him all day long. For those who don’t know him, let me tell you that spending time with Andy is a special experience!

Sarah seems psyched for the race and is getting some pre-race loving from RACE FAN #1 (aka our very own Dixie the Lab).

MaryClaire points out the bike she’s planning on stealing from transition in the middle of the race. It’s a Cervelo P3 with Zipp 1080 front wheel and Sub9 rear disk wheel. She doesn’t make it clear how she plans to accomplish this grand scheme, but it apparently is not a successful attempt because she leaves the race with the same beautiful Felt bicycle that she started with.

Chris comes out of the water. Before everyone else. Not that we’re surprised – the guy has two-percent body fat and hands the size of dinner plates!

MaryClaire looking tough coming out of the water.

Michelle looking good coming off the bike.

MaryClaire kind of snuck up on me at the end of the bike. I forgot she was wearing Team PVA kit and not our usual Georgetown gear. Plus she flew through it like she had wings.

Sarah finishing the bike. She had a rough bike leg – two flat tires, including one right at she came out of transition – but she hung in there and finished the race strong. Way to go Sarah!

Alex grimacing at the finish.

MaryClaire at the finish, looking strong.

Three Georgetown old-timers back together again!

“I can haz sweaty hat?”

Showing off the hardware – a 4th place!
